This weeks blog post is from our Utah friend Kristi Field. Kristi lives in Ogden Utah with her husband and five kids. They are adventurers at heart, hiking, kayaking, camping and exploring any chance they get! They can be found out on their local trails, finding their way through a National Park and enjoying everything outdoors! Here you can read Kristi’s 5 reasons to get outside with your kids this winter, regardless of the weather.
You can follow their adventures at www.familyadventurecollective.
Keep the germs away!
During cold and flu season, keep the sickness away by heading outside! If you’re cooped up inside, circulating the same air, germs are more likely to fester. Layer up and head outdoors where you can breathe in that fresh air! Your immune system will get a boost from this as well as the excercise. You can even bring some hot chocolate along for the adventure to keep your littles motivated and warm!
Fight that Cabin Fever!
When kiddos are kept inside for long periods of time they tend to get a little stir crazy. I know this first hand. We have four boys that eventually start to bounce off the walls if they don’t get some outside time. Have you heard the phrase, “You can’t bounce off the walls if there are no walls?” Exactly. Get those kiddos out into the great wide open where they can run wild and burn off all that energy!
Reduce Your Seasonal Stress!
With Fall and Winter comes the Holidays. The most stressful time of year can take its toll on you and the munchkins. When you are stressed or have a short fuse, it’s easy to snap at the kids and lose your temper. This can create a stressful and uncomfortable house. I have a better idea. Go outside and explore! Burn off all that tension with some adventure. You and your little ones will come back with a fresh perspective and more relaxed state of mind.
Explore Your Community in a Different Way!
It’s easy to get the kids outside during the Summer months when it’s warm and inviting. The parks are packed and the Farmers Markets are thriving with families out basking in the warm Summer sun. But how about heading out to the local Christmas Lights Village when it’s 25 degrees farenheit? Or taking the kids to the park when it snows? It may be harder to find the motivation to head out in this type of weather, but it will be worth it, I promise! The kids will get to sip on hot chocolate while they listen to the local choir sing amongst the beautiful lights. They’ll get to see the park blanketed in white and slide down and land in a heap of fluffy snow. That sounds like a good time to me!
Can you slide down a giant hill on a sled in the summer? Not really. Can you have a snowball fight when it’s 75 degrees outside? It isn’t very likely. The list of fun Winter activities you can do is endless! You can create so many amazing family memories with any one of these awesome activities.
Head outside this Winter for a snow shoe hike as a family. Put on the kids rain boots and go puddle jumping. Bundle them up and head to the local park, trail or any other outdoor space for some Winter fun. The list of holistic benefits are a mile long and your kids will thank you for the awesome day of fun!
If you needed any reasons to get outside with your kids this winter Kristi has given you 5! So no excuses, get kitted up and get outside to feel the benefits as a family. We may not have as much snow as they get in Utah but we certainly have rain and muddy puddles and who doesn’t love jumping in muddy puddles!!!
