Amamaya Clothing
Comfortable kids outdoor clothing that feels great, looks awesome and is #JustForKids
All our clothing is designed #JustForKids. We don’t make small versions of adult clothing. Our designs address the issues we face when outdoors with our kids. Some features include hidden seams and merino wool fabric for ultimate comfort & longer body length and thumb holes so clothing stays put. Our clothing looks great, feels even better and is designed to perform in nature.
Hi, I’m Laura, creator & founder of Amamaya Clothing. I started the company in April 2016 shortly after my daughter was born. The idea was simple. To provide quality kit for kids that looks & feels great. The ultimate goal was to make clothing that not only would I want to wear while hiking, climbing and camping, but that kids would want to wear too.
My daughter wasn’t quite 3 months old but I was already frustrated by the lack of choice when it came to really great kids outdoor clothing. I was into baby wearing and took our daughter everywhere in a sling. This meant a hot body and cold legs. We tried hiking with her in the sling and in a carrier but I never felt comfortable, that she was comfortable, wearing mainly cotton or synthetic fabrics; so I set out on this journey that has become my business.
I secured manufacturing here in the UK with a factory that was happy to support my designs in their early stages. We have long been advocates of using Merino Wool as a fabric for sportswear, so this choice for our initial line was easy. My clothing line started simply with our Gokyo Hats. We have since expanded the range to include our most popular product- our Lukla base layer and this year we have launched our Kosi hoody and Jiri Snood. All of which are available online.
I started out selling at Wells & Bath markets while I built up the online side of the business. This was a great opportunity to get live feedback and inspiration to keep going in the early days. We have also attended the Keswick Mountain Festival and the Telegraph Ski & Snowboard Show, both of which we will be returning to in coming years. These events were followed by a number of features in the press, including Trail Magazine, Fall-Line Magazine, The Telegraph & Somerset Life.
The business has got off to a great start but that’s only with the help of our customers and friends. I hope you continue to love what we do and continue to support us while we grow.
