Meet Team Sweet, the faces behind kids outdoor clothing company Amamaya Clothing
Before setting up Amamaya Clothing I was a Commercial Insurance Broker. It was a far cry from clothing design but after my daughter Maya was born in 2016 my husband & I really felt a gap in the market for quality kids outdoor clothing, especially when setting outside for an adventure. Maya was either too hot, too cold or too uncomfortable, worse than that was she was unable to tell me!
We have spent a lifetime together walking, moutaineering, skiing and generally enjoying the great outdoors and over the years have amounted a huge amount of kit between us. It didn’t seem right that we were out and about protected in all weathers when our daughter wasn’t. There are many great companies out there providing kids outdoor clothing but there are also many providing cheap, poor quality clothing too. We felt we had something to contribute to the kids outdoor clothing market and launched towards the end of 2016.
Wherever possible we make sure that our clothing is manufactured right here in the UK. We want to take every opportunity to help support british manufacturing and there are many benefits of doing so and quality is one of the main ones.
As it stands we currently sell childrens base layers, kids merino wool hats and organic cotton Tshirts. Our range is expanding imminently.
We hope you love what we do and we would love to hear from you, particularly regarding products you struggle to find for your kids.
Without Simon there never would have been a company! He shared his love of mountains with me when we first met and since our first mountain together in the Lake District we’ve now lost count. We’ve climbed mountains all over the UK, the French & Swiss Alps & the Pyrenees and we’ve trekked to Everest Base Camp and also the Huayhuash Circuit in Peru (Maya was even there as I was 5 weeks pregnant at the time).
As well as Walking & Climbing Simon is also a trail runner, currently out of action due to an injury!
This small person is the reason and the inspiration behind the company. I wanted my work to fit around her and whilst starting up a kids outdoor clothing brand isn’t exactly a breeze it has at least been flexible in terms of when I can work and for that I am very grateful.
Ruby is about 8 years old now, we aren’t exactly sure as she is a rescue dog. She’s a field spaniel and Simons original running partner and often looks more like a fraggle than a dog.
Cindy is also a rescue dog from Cyprus. She is otherwise known as Shifty Bendy as she is both of these things. Also Simons running partner and Mayas best mate.
